Holiday In Turkey Is Highly Recommended Since It Has So Much To Offer
I strongly recommend holidays in Turkey. It is a wonderful country packed with diversity. No matter what your interests. If it is culture you seek, then Turkey history is dripping with antiquity which includes the world famous Ephesus, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. If perhaps it is sunshine you are craving, then the weather conditions in Turkey is brilliant with coasts extended across the Aegean and Mediterranean and if it is nightlife and a bustling lifestyle, then Istanbul or Bodrum will provide a wealth of nightclubs and restaurants to name just a couple of places. The holidays in Turkey have never annoyed us.
Bodrum is an easy place to stay. You have several restaurants to choose from ranging from small cafes where you can have pizza, to expensive restaurants where you can taste true Turkish food which is fabulous. In Bodrum itself there are several restaurants that look over the busy harbour where you can sit and watch the world go by. The evening view is spectacular with the sun setting and the fort lit up on the hill.
We stayed just outside of Bodrum in Ortakent which is much calmer although you still have the luxury of well stocked supermarkets KIPA (owned by Tesco) and Burger King in case the need takes you!. The smaller places outside of Bodrum offer a quieter experience where you can sit by the water enjoying freshly caught fish whilst watching the fishermen and the little boats sail across the harbours. Other such villages including Bitez are based by the sea so many of the restaurants really are on the beach.
We decided to drive up to Ephesus whilst staying in Bodrum. Ephesus houses the largest collection of Roman wrecks in the eastern Mediterranean with only about 15% of it having been excavated. The ruins that are identifiable give some idea of the city's original splendour, the thought that people had walked the streets in 60AD is amazing and to walk along streets from the past and admire the architecture is a venture that I would highly recommend.
Patara is a different experience set further south on the Mediterranean. You will see one of the best beaches you can imagine. Patara beach is 75km south of Fethiye and is around 20km long. When we went it was not crowded, had white sand and because it is 20km in length meant you could walk along the seashore until you found a spot that you were okay with. The sea was warm and clear and we spent a couple of days there which is unusual for me, as I am not actually a beach lover. Also Patara beach I think has the claim of the birthplace of Santa Claus. Work that one out if you can. Just back from the shore is an Amphitheatre. We visited this on a Sunday morning and had the whole site to ourselves. Impressive to be able to walk around an Amphitheatre and not have to share it with someone. You can really start to picture what it must have been like back in the Roman periods.
Along the coast from Patara is Kalkan which we used to visit regularly for an evening food. Kalkan is set up more for the tourist so you will find many shops, flats some very good roof top restaurants where you can eat and look out to sea and a dynamic nightlife.
I love Turkey. I would recommend holidays in Turkey to everyone as it has so much to offer
